Fraud Prevention Tips
Pig Butchering Scam
While the name of this scam may sound funny, the outcomes are far from a game. Pig butchering refers to the well-known idea of fattening up a pig before the slaughter. Fraudsters use this idea to "fatten up" their victims emotionally and financially, encouraging more and more investment before they split. They take off with their cryptocurrency pay day and leave you with nothing but financial and emotional devastation.
This scam often starts with a friendly message, or a romantic conversation. Scammers build trust with you over time and eventually begin recommending some kind of investment in cryptocurrency. While the opportunity may seem profitable, it is far from that. These are highly skilled criminals that are professional manipulators. Even the weariest individuals could fall victim to this scam, making it particularly dangerous.
