In honor of Black History Month, we visited Taylor’s Barber Shop in Marion, SC. Taylor’s has been in business for over 100 years and has been continuously owned and operated by African Americans. It is now considered by some to be the oldest, continuous barbershop in the state. Rev. Thomas E. Taylor founded the barbershop with a vision of operating a business for white patrons. You can watch this segment, as well as other previous segments on our Living Local Carolina page.
In honor of Random Acts of Kindness Day, Carolina Trust Brand Ambassador, August delivered flowers and reachers to the residents at Autumn Care of Shallotte. Although we haven’t been able to see the residents in person due to COVID-19, we still wanted them to know that we were thinking of them. We also sponsored Valentine’s Day cookies for Vital Aging of Williamsburg County Inc.

If You Need A Budget Follow These 5 Easy Tips to Get Started
According to the American Psychological Association's survey, which measures causes of stress, money consistently lands near the top with 61% of Americans reporting money-related anxiety. The biggest factor in this stress is overspending according to CNBC Personal Finance. We worry when total expenses (amount spent monthly) exceed total income (amount made monthly), causing mounting debt.
Create a monthly budget to ensure you do not spend more than you make in a month, forcing you to take on additional debt.
Yes. IRA owners have until their tax-filing deadline, April 15, 2021, to make a 2020 IRA contribution. The IRS requires that IRA owners make an irrevocable written election when they make these prior-year contributions. A prior-year contribution is any contribution made between January 1 and April 15 for the preceding year.
Can my spouse make an IRA contribution if they aren’t working right now?
Yes. If a working spouse receives enough eligible compensation to cover the IRA contribution for a nonworking spouse, the nonworking spouse can make a contribution to their IRA, provided they file a joint federal tax return. For example, a nonworking spouse whose marital partner earns $6,000 in annual eligible compensation can make a contribution of up to $6,000 (current annual limit) to their own IRA, assuming they file jointly. Or the $6,000 contribution can be split between the working and nonworking spouses’ IRAs as they choose (e.g., $3,000 to each). If the working spouse has at least $12,000 in annual eligible compensation and owns an IRA, then each spouse can make the maximum annual contribution to each of their IRAs (i.e., $6,000 to each). If one or both individuals is age 50 or older, their contribution limit is $7,000.
